Unit Converters

Area Converter

Convert area measurements among square metric units, square customary units, hectares, acres, and square miles. Unit symbols remain visible so a linear measurement is not mistaken for an area.

What Area Converter does

Area Converter converts a numeric area between the explicitly labeled units in the selector. Changing the value or either unit recalculates the result immediately.

The calculator converts through square meters using fixed factors, including exactly 0.09290304 square meters per square foot and 4,046.8564224 square meters per acre. This is a unit conversion, not a measurement or lookup: the result is determined only by the number and units supplied in the browser.

How to use Area Converter

  1. Enter a finite numeric area value.
  2. Choose the source unit and the unit required for the result.
  3. Read the converted value with its destination symbol, or use Swap units to reverse the direction.
  4. Carry only the precision justified by the original measurement when copying the result.

Important details

Supported units

Available units are square millimeters, square centimeters, square meters, hectares, square kilometers, square inches, square feet, square yards, acres, and square miles.

A distinction that matters

Area factors are squared relative to length factors. One meter equals about 3.28 feet, but one square meter equals about 10.76 square feet; applying the linear factor would be wrong.

Practical uses

  • Compare floor plans listed in square feet and square meters.
  • Translate land area among hectares, acres, and square kilometers.
  • Convert material coverage or print dimensions between square units.

Privacy and limitations

Area Converter performs its arithmetic locally. PagesTools does not receive the entered value or selected units.

The tool does not calculate area from shape dimensions, survey boundaries, map coordinates, or irregular geometry. Results use floating-point arithmetic and display up to 14 significant digits, so retain only meaningful measurement precision.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the Area Converter calculate acreage from length and width?

No. Enter an area that has already been calculated, then choose its unit. A rectangle, circle, parcel boundary, or other shape must be measured and calculated separately.

Are hectares and acres treated as the same size?

No. A hectare is 10,000 square meters, while an acre is 4,046.8564224 square meters. The selected labels determine which factor is used.

Why should I avoid copying every displayed area digit?

Conversion cannot add precision to the source measurement. If an area was measured to three significant digits, extra displayed digits are mathematical artifacts rather than better surveying accuracy.
