What Speed Converter does

Speed Converter converts a numeric speed between the explicitly labeled units in the selector. Changing the value or either unit recalculates the result immediately.

All values normalize through meters per second using fixed factors, including 0.44704 meter per second per mph and 0.5144444444444445 meter per second per knot. This is a unit conversion, not a measurement or lookup: the result is determined only by the number and units supplied in the browser.

How to use Speed Converter

  1. Enter a finite numeric speed value.
  2. Choose the source unit and the unit required for the result.
  3. Read the converted value with its destination symbol, or use Swap units to reverse the direction.
  4. Carry only the precision justified by the original measurement when copying the result.

Important details

Supported units

The converter supports meter per second, kilometer per hour, mile per hour, foot per second, and knot. A knot is one nautical mile per hour.

A distinction that matters

Speed has magnitude only. The converter does not carry direction, acceleration, travel conditions, or a route, so it is not a velocity-vector or trip-time calculator.

Practical uses

  • Compare vehicle speeds listed in km/h and mph.
  • Translate marine or aviation speeds between knots and other units.
  • Convert engineering measurements among m/s and ft/s.

Privacy and limitations

Speed Converter performs its arithmetic locally. PagesTools does not receive the entered value or selected units.

This tool does not estimate arrival time, account for wind or current, or calculate average speed from changing measurements. Results are arithmetic conversions of the entered value only.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is one knot the same as one mile per hour?

No. A knot is one nautical mile per hour, and a nautical mile is longer than a statute mile. The table therefore uses distinct factors for knots and mph.

Can Speed Converter calculate travel time?

No. Travel time also requires distance and assumptions about whether speed stays constant. This tool changes the unit of a supplied speed only.

Does the tool account for wind or water current?

No. It has no direction or environmental inputs. Airspeed, groundspeed, water speed, and speed over ground must be distinguished before conversion.
