What WebP to PNG Converter does

WebP to PNG Converter verifies one WebP file, decodes the image through the browser, and writes the visible pixels to PNG. Alpha transparency in the decoded still image can remain transparent in the PNG output.

PNG is lossless for the exported pixels but is not guaranteed to be smaller. WebP often compresses photographs and transparent graphics efficiently, so the PNG version can require substantially more storage.

How to use WebP to PNG Converter

  1. Select one valid WebP file up to 20 MB.
  2. Start the local conversion and wait for browser decoding to complete.
  3. Check the output size and transparency, then download the PNG.

Important details

Transparency can carry into PNG

The converter does not add a background when producing PNG. If the decoded WebP still contains alpha information, those transparent pixels remain available in the output.

Animation is not transferred

A PNG created by this tool is one static raster image. Animated WebP timelines, frame timing, and looping information are not reproduced.

Practical uses

  • Open a WebP graphic in software that accepts PNG but not WebP.
  • Create a lossless still for repeated edits or compositing.
  • Deliver a transparent PNG asset to a document or slide workflow.

Privacy and limitations

WebP signature checking, decoding, and PNG encoding are performed locally. The image is not uploaded to a PagesTools service.

One WebP up to 20 MB is accepted, within 12,000-pixel-side and 40-megapixel canvas limits. The output is a still PNG and does not preserve animation, source metadata, or WebP-specific compression settings.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Will a transparent WebP stay transparent?

Usually yes when the browser decodes its alpha channel correctly, because PNG also supports transparency and the tool does not paint a background for this conversion.

Why did the PNG become much larger?

PNG uses lossless compression, while WebP may use very efficient lossy or lossless encoding. The same decoded image can therefore occupy more bytes as PNG.

Does this convert animated WebP files?

It creates one static PNG from the image decoded by the browser. It does not export every animation frame or produce an animated PNG.
