Creating a signature image
The drawing area accepts mouse, pen, and touch input through browser pointer events. Choose an ink color and stroke width, then write inside the canvas. A transparent background makes the downloaded PNG convenient to place over a light document or layout, though the final appearance depends on the application that imports it.
If drawing input is unavailable, enter a name and render the typed alternative. The browser uses an installed cursive-style font, so appearance can vary by device and operating system. Typed output is a visual name treatment, not a handwritten biometric representation. Review the canvas before downloading and clear it if a stroke or spelling is wrong.
The image has a fixed underlying pixel size and scales responsively on the page. Thin strokes may become faint when a document shrinks the PNG, while very wide strokes can lose detail. Test the exported file at its intended display and print dimensions. Keep enough surrounding transparent space to avoid clipping in the destination.
Using the PNG in a document workflow
Download the PNG and insert it only into a document you are authorized to sign. Confirm that the document is final, that the signature is placed in the correct field, and that the export retains expected transparency and resolution. Save the unsigned source separately so later edits cannot be mistaken for the version you reviewed.
Some forms accept an image as a convenience, while others require an approved electronic-signature platform, identity check, audit trail, or certificate. Follow the recipient’s instructions. An image can be copied like any other graphic and does not bind itself cryptographically to the document’s bytes, signer identity, time, or subsequent edits.
For repeated business use, avoid keeping a signature image in an unprotected shared folder or email draft. Anyone who obtains the file may be able to reuse its appearance. Prefer a controlled signing service for agreements and access the image only when the risk and policy allow it. Remove temporary document copies according to retention requirements.
Image signatures versus digital signatures
A drawn or typed PNG is a visual signature. A cryptographic digital signature uses a protected private key to create verifiable data tied to specific document content. Verification software can detect changes and evaluate a certificate chain. This PagesTools generator does not create keys, certificates, timestamps, identity evidence, or a cryptographic signature.
Whether a visual mark is legally effective depends on jurisdiction, intent, consent, the document type, and the surrounding evidence. Certain wills, deeds, regulated filings, or organizational approvals may have special requirements. Obtain appropriate legal or compliance guidance rather than assuming that a downloaded image satisfies every signature rule.
The tool also does not authenticate handwriting or compare biometrics. Pointer input has limited sampling, device scaling, and no verified link to a person. Do not use it to decide whether another signature is genuine. For fraud prevention, rely on approved identity, signing, and records processes proportionate to the transaction.
Local privacy and security boundaries
Drawing and PNG generation happen locally in your browser. PagesTools does not need to upload the strokes, typed name, or image. The result is still sensitive because it visually represents a signature. Browser extensions, screenshots, clipboard tools, downloaded-file backups, cloud synchronization, and other users of the device can expose it.
Use a trusted device, download only when needed, and store or delete the file under the same controls as other signing material. Check shared download folders before leaving the device. Local generation reduces one network transfer but does not provide secure key storage, tamper evidence, revocation, or an audit trail. Use a recognized signing platform when those properties are required.
