Private mode loads a self-hosted FFmpeg WebAssembly engine after you request it and processes the video on this device without uploading the file. Server mode uploads only the selected video for a bounded native FFmpeg request and uses a temporary workspace with best-effort cleanup.
Private mode requires WebAssembly, a web worker, sufficient device memory, and a one-time engine download; it can take substantially longer than native server processing, particularly on phones. Codec availability, source complexity, output size, and browser memory can prevent a local conversion. Server mode is usually faster and more compatible but uploads the file temporarily.
